Grand Island Vikings Release 2006 Lacrosse Schedule Sept 30th 2005 - HUTH ROAD SCHOOL - The complete schedule for the 2006 GI Lax team was released today by coach Steve Steck. It is a drastic change considering the massive league restructuring. Instead of playing the teams that are made up of mostly Native American's, they are confined to compete versus teams that are in the same class as themselves. Considering the way that Section VI lacrosse was going a change was needed. Instead of teams from the ECIC competing against each other, and the rest of clubs residing in the WNY league, it is now similar to Section VI football where your league is your class. Classes are broken down into schools with the similar class size. They did get to select a few non-league game, and they chosen some traditional rivals. Some games that instantly jump out are against Sweet Home, whom have eliminated the Vikings in the post season the past two seasons. Timon/St. Jude who return virtually their whole team, and have had a good rivalry since they entered the league and have taken the past two meetings. Amherst and Hamburg who met in the finals of the Class B championship last season. This years Viking squad will certainly not be as inexperienced as last years team as they are returning their defense, goalie, one attackman and a midfielder. Of course all is depending on how much work is put in on the off season. They did attend the 1812 tourney in Sackett's Harbour this summer and did very well with a 5-1 record.
